Topics For Consideration With Deciding On Core Issues In
16, 2017, graduation ceremony at the University of Illinois at Chicago. (UIC Creative and Digital Services /) A Riverwoods couple recently took part in university commencement exercises, 50 years after graduating and in the same year they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Holly and Barry Kahan were supposed to graduate from the University of Illinois at Chicago in May 1967, but Barry said the date was changed from the original date of June 16 because of facility issues. The couple's wedding was planned for June 18. "I felt really down," Holly said. "Most of our friends from UIC weren't going to be able to come to our wedding." While Holly was busy planning their wedding and thinking about graduation, Barry said his mind was on their future. "I was oblivious," he said. "I was applying to medical school and law school. I was focused on that and preparing for a summer job." But last year, the couple, who lived in Highland Park for 46 years, was invited to take part in UIC's Golden Graduates program, which would allow them to take part in Dec. 16 commencement exercises.
